Forum to protect men's rights launched

The fair sex better be warned. An organisation for protection of men's rights has been launched in Chennai.

Laws for the protection of women are being misused to harass men of late, T Murugaiyan, the president of the association told a press conference.

The acts were enacted to protect women from men's atrocities but these laws were being misused to destroy men, he said.

The prevention of dowry act was the most abused to put men behind bars, he said adding women's organisations resort to 'unlawful methods' like staging dharna in front of the police stations to presurrise the law enforcing officials to take action against men, though they were aware that the men were not responsible for the alleged crime.

"What could be settled within the four walls of a house are being taken to streets, showing men in bad light," he said.

His association would take up several issues concerning men, create awareness and help men, who became "victims of the abuse of law," he said.

"While society is sympathetic to the violation of women's rights, cases of male abuse are rarely taken seriously," he said.

His association would be a boon to men who had become victims of abuse at the hands of their wives, he said.

498A_Victim - New Delhi

1. Married in Feb 2003 according to Hindu rituals. This was arragned marriage.

2. Within the first month itself she ran away from my house AFTER MIDNIGHT FOR NO REASON and came
back after 3-4 hours.

3. I tried to enquire the reason, she said, this marriage was against her will and she wanted to
marry someone else.

4. When my parents tried to sort the matter out, she kicked my father. Aggrieved by such abusive
behaviour, my father (and other family members) disconnected relations from me.

5. My father in law demanded 15 Lakhs, saying that we want to remarry our daughter to someone
else. So, give us this much amount OR we will implicate you in false dowry harassment cases.

6. As my wife was pregnant at that time, she threatened to pay her Rs. 15 Lakhs and divorce
otherwise she will kill the child.

7. I filed a police complaint regarding this, requesting police to save the unborn child. But
Police didnt take any action. So, i tried to put my request in the court, there too a LONG date was
given. MEANWHILE, the delivery time came and she was at her parents house. THEY REALLY KILLED THE
CHILD, as i was not ready for divorce and not in a position to pay that much amount.

8. After doing all this things, no department/officer is paying attention to my request. My inlaws
are still making their unlawfull demands. Case is in the court and \’Date after Date\’ is going
on. Till date i am feeling depressed because of all this. I wonder what was the fault of the new
born, who was killed by them at the time of birth. It was a baby girl.

9. Currently I am running from pillar to post in hope of justice. As they are politically very
sound, so no one is paying attention to my case.

10. At last i can conclude that DUE TO THIS BLACKMAILING TOOL IN THE FORM OF \’FALSE DOWRY
HARASSMENT COMPLAINT + ARRESTING OF ALL ACCUSED WITHOUT ENQUIRY\’ (as no one in our family history been
to police stations or Jail), I have lost my relations with THREE generations i.e. My Parents (and
inlaws) + My brother (and brother in laws) + My daughter (Already killed). In future too i dont
think that they will understand the importance of \”Family Harmony\”.

Domestic violence law: Renuka gets hate mail

NEW DELHI: Implementation of the Domestic Violence Act has put Union Minister Renuka Chowdhury at the receiving end of hate mails. “We have received a number of abusive e-mails from men after implementation of the legislation which tries to counter violence at home,” the minister said.

She was speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day “Annual Convention on Legislative Coordination for Action on Women Issues” organised by WomenPowerConnect, a conglomeration of about 500 organisations, on Friday. Chowdhury, who is heading the ministry for women and child development, said violence against women by their spouses rob the former of their self-esteem.

“The legislation has proved to be a boon for many women,” she said. On the controversial Women’s Reservation Bill, she said the government was working on a consensus for its passage in Parliament. “The government is committed to the women’s cause. We could have bulldozed our way by saying the numbers are on our side. (But) you will be surprised by the male bonding in Parliament. They say something on camera and say the exact opposite off it,” Chowdhury added.

Sex on pretext of marriage isn’t rape

NEW DELHI: It is cheating and not rape when a man who has had sex with a woman after promising marriage does not keep his word, the supreme court has ruled.

The ruling was pronounced when the court partially allowed an appeal by one Deelip Singh who is charged with raping a woman on the pretext of marrying her.

A bench of Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice DK Jain held that a woman’s consent is vitiated if a man makes representation of marriage “deliberately” to “elicit” a woman’s assent for an intercourse.

To accuse a man of rape, it is necessary to establish that at the very inception of making a promise to marry, he did not “entertain the intention of marrying the woman” and the promise was a mere hoax, the judges said.

“Then the consent ostensibly given by the victim will be of no avail to the accused to exculpate him from the ambit of Section 375 (rape) of the IPC,” the bench noted.

Judges also said that the lady involved in Singh’s case had accepted that she had consented to physical relations with him. She had also said that she was married to Singh.

If that was so, the judges said, Singh cannot be charged with rape, an offence that has been termed as “heinous” and which “kills the self of a victim”. The judges sent back Singh’s appeal to the Patna High Court that had refused to discharge him from the offence of rape.

Rajkot court asks police protection to Prostitute Pooja Chauhan

RAJKOT: A court in Rajkot has ordered police to provide protection to Pooja Chauhan, who created a flutter by walking semi-nude on the city’s streets to protest alleged harassment by her husband.

The court also said she should be allowed to continue staying in her rented accommodation. Chauhan’s landlord had asked her to vacate the home after her controversial protest. The Gandhigram police station has received a copy of the order issued on Saturday by Judicial Magistrate R M Bhatt, who directed police to provide necessary protection to Chauhan.

But police said they had been unable to trace Chauhan. “After the court’s order, we went to Puja’s rented house in Shastrinagar but we found it locked,” Inspector Sardarsinh Zala said.

The court’s order directed her landlord in Shastrinagar, where Chauhan has been staying for the past year with her three-year-old daughter, not to ask her to vacate the house. The court also summoned four accused — her husband Pratap Chauhan, mother-in-law Hansa Chauhan and two neighbours — to appear before it on July 10.

However the four are suspected to have left the city following Chauhan’s protest, Zala said.

The court’s order came in response to a complaint filed by Chauhan under the Domestic Violence Act, police said.
